This hand-stitched dress is based on a gown created by Augustabernard for Spring 1934. The original dress features brown silk charmeuse and is cut on the bias, like many dresses from the 1930s, creating a form-fitting columnar silhouette. Bright green velvet wraps the shoulders, coming together in an oversized bow at the front of the dress. I made my bow from nine little pieces of pieces, layered atop one another.
The original dress is held by the Museum at FIT (accession 2009.1.2).
The dress is 6 inches tall, stitched by hand on 100% cotton watercolour paper.
Materials: Japanese and Nepalese paper and cotton floss on cotton paper.
